Yunkang Yang is a Ph.D. Candidate in the Department of Communication at the University of Washington. His research areas include political communication, information and communication technology, and journalism. His dissertation is about right wing media and disinformation in the US. His research is published on Journal of Communication, Information Communication & Society, International Journal of Communication, and Asian Journal of Communication. The courses he has taught as an Instructor of Record are Introduction to Communication, Key Concepts of New Media, and Social Science Approaches to Communication Research.
He graduated from Tsinghua University with a MA in journalism and communication in 2013. He also worked at Xinhua News agency as an editor in 2012.
He was a British Parliamentary debater in college. In 2009, he and his partner Ran Deng won the first runner-up award in the national English debate tournament and thereafter competed in the 2010 World University Debating Championship on behalf of the People’s Republic of China.
